During 21th to 24th of March 2013, Kasetsart University by Geotechnical Engineering Research and Development Center (GERD) has collaborated with Mandalay Technological University (MTU) and Department of Methodology and Hydrology (DMH) of the Union of Myanmar in order to investigate the effects on people and earth-structures from the 6.8 November 2012 earthquake. The 6.8 earthquake on the Richter scale has occurred on 11 of November 2012 and affected the Sagaing and Mandalay regions of the upper part of the country. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that earthquake struck the west bank of the Irrawaddy River, 60 kilometres (40 miles) northwest of Mandalay, at a depth of 9.9 km at about 7.30 a.m. in local time.
The purpose of the site investigations were to investigate the characteristics of geology, the impact to the building, specifically to the Geotechnical problem such as retaining structures, landslide hazard, dam structures and liquefaction phenomenon etc. The investigations were comprised of Thabeikkyin Township, Sint Gu Township, Innwa region, Sagaing and Mandalay regions...
